The Four Refer-ability Habits – What are people saying about you?

Dan Sullivan, the founder of the Strategic Coach Program, has something called the “Four Refer-ability Habits.” If you want people to refer you in life, if you want people to speak highly of you, you must implement these four habits. There are other ways to have people speak positively about you but practicing these four habits will get it done faster.

  1. Show up on time.
  2. Do what you say you are going to do.
  3. Finish what you start
  4. Say “Please” and “Thank you.”

How many people do you know that don’t finish what they start or don’t do the things they say they are going to do. On the other hand, think of the people that you admire and speak highly of. They probably execute well on these habits.

Here’s an exercise for you. Pick a person that you have email or text dialogue with (yes, even text message). Scroll back and look at all the electronic conversations you have had with them. Do you say “Please” and “Thank You” in your messages? Do they? Why not?
